I call the Schwagstock 14 design, “Beyond the Veil”. It was inspired by a nineteenth century engraving by Louis Flammarion. His design shows a boy pushing through the clouds and gazing beyond the heavens into outer space to view the vast wheel works of the Universe. In my design, we find one of the Dead Bears projecting consciousness through the astrological sign, Leo (the sign dominating the period during SS14). The Bear has turned its back on the normal waking world to press on into the unknown inconscious. In the scroll at the bottom of the Back design, reads the challenge “Pull away the veil of what you have known to discover the treasures that lie beyond.” It is only by pressing on, into the unfamiliar, that we learn and eventually grow wise. This is probably my favorite shirt and not just because of the strong metaphysical symbolism. Karen, with this shirt, has created one of the coolest tie dyes I ever seen. I’ve had people tell me would have bought the shirt with NOTHING printed on it. I feel great every time I put it on. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
