1964 Chevrolet, 350 V-8, 4bbl, dual exhaust w/headers, 7.1 mpg. The entire drive train has been replaced. Having started its life as a yellow school bus in Louisiana, it was bought in 1985 for $1050 and the transformation into the Rocket began. The entire bus was sandblasted to bare metal and primed. The school bus windows were removed and replaced with sheet metal. Part of the roof was cut out and the fiberglass topper was installed raising the interior height to 7’4”. RV windows were installed where desired. Camping heat is provided by an antique Sears & Roebuck potbellied wood stove. OK, that answers all the questions guys always ask. Now the fun stuff!

The Rocket has traveled mostly in the Central and Eastern states, from Texas to Boston, Missouri to Catskill, NY and on to Woodstock in 1997 to deliver the official “Day in the Garden” T-shirts. The Rocket has a habit of showing up at rural gatherings where there are lots of kind people, great music and has attended every Schwagstock since the first Leasburg gathering in Spring, 2000. It currently lives in St. Louis and functions as a mobile meditation chamber and bitchin’ rolling weekend hippie pad. The really cool thing about the Rocket is that no matter where I pull up, I seem to have instant friends. People look inside and a strange look comes over their face like their inner child is smiling or something. Maybe it’s the disco ball hanging under the skylight.

People always ask about the stained glass window. The design represents the heart emerging from darkness into the light. I had a friend in Springfield, MO make it for me. Click on the window to view it from inside the Rocket. E-mail me if you want the full explanation of the design’s symbolism.
